Tourism industry is rapidly growing (1.5 mill. tourists annually). Azerbaijan economy has the one of the highest growth rates in the world: in 2006 GDP grew on 36.6% to $20.4 bill. Economic growth proceed continuously; during 10 years Azerbaijan economy has increased on 13.6% annually.

Baku is a capital, scientific and technical and industrial center of Azerbaijan, the largest Caspian port and the biggest city in the Caucasus. Due to its antiquity, size and population Baku is one of the largest cities in the East. Population of agglomeration, including Baku and Apsheron, is 2 320 thousand people.
