MetalTek Kazakhstan - The International Exhibition for Metallurgy, Tube & Pipe Making, Moulds, Metal Cutting, Machine Tools and other Metal Technologies

Kazakhstan`s Metal Industry

Karaganda is the center of the mining and metalworking industry in Kazakhstan. At the center of this industry is one of the main exhibition sponsors is Mittal Steel Temirtau. This is one of the largest single-site integrated steel plants in the world. Located on the banks of the Nura River, it covers about 5,000 hectares and has a steelmaking capacity of 5.5 million tons per annum. The company has one of the most modern steel plants with excellent infrastructure facilities. It also has its own captive coal, iron ore and power. Coal reserves amount to 1.5 billion tonnes. Iron ore reserves top 1.7 billion tonnes. The company operates a 435 MW thermal power station. It has maintained its cost leadership position by continuously upgrading its technology and equipment. Mittal Steel’s integrated steel plant employs the basic oxygen furnace (BOF) technology. The steel complex can broadly be divided into: coke making, iron making through blast furnaces, steel making, ingot casting and hot rolling.

    Kazakhstan's Mineral Reserves & Production

Kazakhstan is immensely rich in virtually all types of mineral reserves, particularly coal, iron are, lead, zinc, chromium, copper, manganese, bauxite and gold. With many of these minerals, Kazakhstan has a substantial proportion of the world's total reserves. In addition to the above reserves, Kazakhstan among CIS states is also the largest producer of beryllium, tantalum, barite, uranium, cadmium, and arsenic. Bauxite is also mined in substantial quantities. Unlike many developing countries, Kazakhstan is welcoming foreign investors into the development of its natural resources. A strong indication of this policy has been the privatization. The Government began to privatize state mining companies in 1994. By July 1998, virtually the entire sector had been privatized.

    Concurrent Exhibition

The MetalTek exhibition is being held concurrently with MinTek a specialized mining technology exhibition. The previous edition of MinTek featured 97 exhibiting companies from 12 countries and attracted almost 4,000 professional mining visitors.
